Seal Hunting

Should the seal hunt in northern Canada be banned? What is more important the extinction of the seal or the Inuit’s culture of seal hunting being taken away? Debates are being brought up about whether the seal hunt in northern Canada should be banned or not. In my opinion the seal hunt should be banned because of the fact that they are becoming endangered. But seal hunting is the culture of the Inuit’s in the north of Canada; they eat seal and make their skin into clothes. But can they hunt seal too much? There are many pros and cons about seal hunting that makes people think whether seal hunting should be banned or not?

  1. Seals are becoming endangered?
You should definitely get your fact straight... there was close to 10 millions harp seal in 2008. There's probably around 11 or 12 millions now and a healthy population would be around 4 millions. In fact, they are overpopulated and eating all the fish stocks still left in the Gulf of St-Laurent... Fishermen are the endangered species here.
